Living in a Bubble

21 01 2009

I just found out that Yahoo Live!, a live video blog service, has ended! I am so broken-up about it.

Thanks to Jeff Shields who posted a nice synopsis blog about it. Looks like Yahoo! was worried about competing in the market downturn with a service that really didn’t make money. So I am left to the pathetic one-way capabilities of uStream.tv. Ugh.
The reason I liked the Yahoo Live platform was because it enabled persistent video feeds with audio and chat.

The sad part about all of this is that I didn’t know about it until nearly two months.

As a collaboration consultant, I have two jobs (1) enabling collaboration opportunities and (2) connecting out to the rest of the world to discover new capabilities on the web. My client environment requires me to live on as many as three different networks. The capabilities of each are extremely divergent and the data is complex. This recent event rams home to me the quick pace of innovation and success/failure of emerging technologies. Staying on-top of these changes is a real challenge. I guess that’s why I have a job. I just wish I was better at it.
