Joe -- I certainly hear your point about IT security folks and their (understandable) security concerns about social media. If we want them to attend, they need to know we want to hear their concerns and engage in a serious dialogue about how to address their concerns.

As for your comment on public affairs officers, I have to respectfully disagree, as the opposite has been my experience. My federal government clients and I have frequently found allies in Public Affairs for moving social media efforts forward.

Hey Maxine! I've had some off-line conversations with potential presenters. I have cleared my meetings today to put together an agenda for the team to iterate upon.

Great post Brian - I'm excited to keep the momentum for this event moving forward and continuing to work with such a high quality group of people to make this happen. I only wish I could have participated in the last meeting in person! I'll definitely try to make the next one. As I was reading over your post, I had another thought about the workshop presenters/speakers we're targeting - what if we reached outside of government for one of these sessions? At the recent Web 2.0 Summit, they had a panel with a bunch of teenagers talking about technology and how they use it and another panel with Mark Cuban and Brooke Burke talking about how they used social media. They were a welcome change from the rest of the VERY heavy tech insiders' focus of the rest of the sessions, but it also offered some valuable perspectives that forced the attendees to look at things through a different lens.

What if one of the workshops brought together people from different industries for a panel discussion about what THEY want out of their government and government 2.0? I think it'd be interesting to have a session where we talked about the challenges and opportunities of Gov 2.0 with people outside the government who have been successful in transforming something in their own industries. There are enough VERY successful folks local to the Washington area (or travel here frequently) who might be willing to participate. I think they might be able to bring a fresh and unique perspective to this notion of Government 2.0.
